How to adopt
Adopting a cat or kitten from the Kent-Ashford, Tenterden & District Branch is not quite as easy as turn up, choose a pet and go home. But don't let that put you off as its also a fairly straightforward procedure.
The cats in our care are very precious to us and we want to ensure that their new home and owners are suitable, so that the new owner and our cats have the best possible start. With this policy in mind, there are just a few things that we need to check. For example, anybody who wishes to adopt an animal will require a home visit before the animal can leave the centre.
That said, adoption it is still a very efficient procedure and you can rest assured all our animals have the very best care.
Here is a quick and simple guide to the adoption process:
1 : Visit the cattery and choose a cat / cats or kitten
2 : Fill in an adoption Questionnaire
3 : Where possible we ask all family members to meet the cat
4 : A brief home visit will be arranged.
5 : If the home visit is successful an appointment will be made to collect the animal
6 : When collecting the animal, all adoption paperwork will be completed. Please bring ID with you
7 : All cats must be transported in a suitable carrier
To help you on your way and to make sure everything is ok six to eight weeks after adoption, a follow up home visit will be made to see how the adoption has gone.
Important note : All cats over 6 months of age leave here neutered, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, flead, wormed and with 4 weeks free insurance. Some animals may leave the animal centre before they have been neutered so in this instance you will be given a date to return to the cattery for your new kitten to be neutered on our mobile neutering unit this will be booked in at time of adoption.
